Description. Adult ( Fig. 108 View FIGURES 105–110 ). Colouration. Green when alive, yellow or ochreous when preserved dry or in ethanol. Each half of vertex margined with white line. Ocelli orange or reddish; eyes greyish. Antennal segments 1–3 yellow, 4–8 yellow basally, dark brown apically, the dark part getting more expanded towards apex, being just at the tip in segment 4 and covering almost entire segment in 8, segments 9 and 10 dark brown to black. Apex of rostrum black. Thorax with faint whitish pattern consisting of longitudinal stripes and dots, dorsally. Forewing ( Figs 10 View FIGURES 1–10 , 108 View FIGURES 105–110 ) transparent, yellowish to ochreous, with dark brown or black dots in the middle of margins of cells m 1, m 2 and cu 1, and at apex of clavus; in young specimens wing base lighter than rest. Hindwing whitish, transparent; costal margin light brown. Female proctiger conspicuously dark brown or almost black.
Structure. Head inclined in a 30° angle from longitudinal body axis. Genal processes relatively long, irregularly narrowing towards blunt apex, 0.8–0.9 times as long as vertex along midline ( Fig. 119 View FIGURES 111–133 ). Antenna 2.8–2.9 times as long as head width. Rostrum long, two apical segments visible in profile, 0.4–0.5 times as long as head width. Forewing ( Figs 10 View FIGURES 1–10 , 128 View FIGURES 111–133 ) 2.8–3.0 times as long as head width, 2.3–2.4 times as long as wide, narrowly rounded apically, most strongly curved in cell r 2; pterostigma short, broad at base, about as wide as adjacent part of cell r 1; cell cu 1 0.9–1.1 times higher than wide; surface spinules forming extended fields in all cells except for cell c+sc where they are restricted to apex; leaving broad, spinule-free stripes along veins. Metatibia 0.7 times as long as head width. Terminalia as in Figs 133 View FIGURES 111–133 , 155, 156 View FIGURES 134–156 , 165 View FIGURES 157–167 . Male proctiger 0.4 times as long as head width, with narrow, slightly curved posterior lobes basally. Paramere simple, clavate, in profile, with margins irregularly widening to apical third and then narrowing to apex which is truncate; inner surface with large, backward directed slerotised tooth; inner surface sparsely covered in long setae and with a group of dense bristles in apical third posteriorly. Distal segment of aedeagus with irregular apical dilatation bearing two ventral ridges; sclerotised end tube of ductus ejaculatorius short, weakly sinuous. Female proctiger 1.0–1.2 times as long as head width, dorsal outline sinuous, weakly indented distal to circumanal ring, apex distinctly obliquely truncate; circumanal ring 0.3 times as long as proctiger. Female subgenital plate 0.6 times as long as proctiger, apex pointed.
Measurements (in mm) and ratios (2 ♂, 2 ♀). Head width ♂ 0.82–0.84, ♀ 0.84–0.88; antenna length ♂ 2.30– 2.46, ♀ 2.34–2.56; forewing length ♂ 2.26–2.38, ♀ 2.38–2.60; male proctiger length 0.30–0.32; paramere length 0.32; length of distal segment of aedeagus 0.30; female proctiger length 0.88–1.02.
Fifth instar immature unknown.
Etymology. Adjective, feminine form. From Latin viridis = green, for its green body colour.
Distribution. Brazil (MG, PR).
Host plant, biology and habitat. Adults were collected on Copaifera langsdorffii Desf. , which is a likely host.—Cerrado, transition from riparian forest to cerrado.
Comments. Mitrapsylla viridis differs from other copaiba psyllids as indicated in the key. It is similar to M. megacerca from which it differs in the larger body dimensions and details of the male and female terminalia.
