Mesambria Stål, 1878: 28 View in CoL , 72; Brunner von WattenWyl, 1893: 140; Kirby, 1910: 440; Willemse, 1921: 14; Johnston, 1956: 293; Willemse, 1956: 19; Willemse, 1957: 368; Otte, 1995: 313.

Type species: Mesambria maculipes Stål, 1878 , by subsequent designation ( Kirby, 1910).

Composition. The genus consists of seven species, namely Mesambria punctaria ( Walker, 1870) from South India ( Walker, 1870), M. maculipes Stål, 1878 from Indonesia (Sulawesi: Manado) ( Stål, 1878; Willemse, 1921), M. ferrugata Brancsik, 1893 from Nossibé in Madagascar ( Brancsik, 1893), M. elegans Ramme, 1941 from Indonesia (Sulawesi: Bantimurung), M. rectangularis Ramme, 1941 from Sulawesi (Matinan Mts.), M. trapezina Ramme, 1941 from Sulawesi (Latimodjong Mts.) ( Ramme, 1941) and a new species described below.

Notes. The inclusion of Mesambria ferrugata and M. punctaria in this genus must be confirmed by eXamination of the types of these species. The color photos of the type specimens of M. elegans , M. rectangularis and M. trapezina prepared by J. Tumbrinck are available in the Orthoptera Species File ( Cigliano et al., 2018). It allowed me to clarify the diagnostic features of these species for comparison with congeners.
