Diagnosis. Body integument and legs shiny black; funicle, elytra, sternite 6, and pygidium yellowish red. Dorsally glabrous, ventrally with white setae; tarsi with rings of white setae. Parameres with setae.

Description. Holotype male: Body length 12.5 mm, humeral width 3.9 mm. Color: Body shiny black; mouthparts, funicle, elytra, sternite 6, and pygidium yellowish red. Surface: dorsally glabrous, ventrally with white vestiture; tarsi with rings of white setae. Head: Form elongate, rugopunctate. Clypeus trapezoidal, anterior border briefly sinuate. Antennal club mostly black, clearly shorter than funicle; length of funicle shorter than length of head. Mentum elongate and oval, longitudinally with wide furrow, with sparse setae on surface. Thorax: Pronotum hexagonal, convex; length 2.90 mm, width 2.80 mm; black with blue shine, glabrous, rugopunctate. Prosternal process short, slender, subtriangular, acute; hidden in frontal view. Scutellum wide, black, with white setae. Elytra with slightly punctate striae, inner borders and central area darkened. Metasternum wide; with dense and abundant vestiture of slender, long, clear yellow setae between mesocoxae and metacoxae. Abdomen: Sternites 2–5 moderately concave at middle, sternites 1–5 with dense and abundant vestiture of slender and stout spine-like, erect, yellow setae at each side of midline; length of sternite 5 twice length of sternite 4 with spine-like, long setae; sternite 6 oval, yellow, with spine-like, long setae near the posterior border. Pygidium glabrous, elongate, ovate, with long spine-like setae on the apex. Legs: Profemur with a subrectangular projection near base. Mesotibia widened toward the apex; with two long, straight, acute spurs and long, spine-like setae around apex. Tarsi enlarged, with rings of white setae and long spine-like setae around apex; all tarsal claws long and cleft. Genitalia: Total length 2.10 mm. Parameres stout, oval, convex, broadly rounded with medium setae on distal half; weakly fused dorsobasally; apex rounded, slightly divergent; length 1.44 mm, width 1.02 mm ( Figs. 10–12 View FIGURES 7 – 17 ).

Allotype female: Body length 11.40 mm; humeral width 3.70 mm. Similar to male except as follows: pronotum width 2.75 mm, length 2.50 mm, with clypeus and legs dark red, antennal club short, elytra darkened on inner borders, basal third yellowish red; sternites 2–5 convex; pygidium subtriangular, short, weakly convex. Genital plates long, oval, length 1.30 mm, width 0.52 mm; apex rounded, asymmetrical, external border nearly rounded ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 7 – 17 ).

Variation: One male paratype has the clypeus and legs yellow, and dark elytra; apex of parameres with straight inner border and briefly sinuate external border.

Natural history. Specimens were collected during daylight hours on leaves of unidentified plants in wet elfin forest in January (4) at elevations of 2100–2400 m.

Remarks. The combination of colors, absence of dorsal setae, proportions of antennal parts, and shape of parameres and female genital plates aid to distinguish M. yunganus from other species.
