I do not attempt to provide a diagnosis or description of the genus, as the species described in Brachyolus View in CoL by Broun, Sharp and Marshall form a disparate group of species that is polyphyletic (Brown, unpublished data). The type species, Brachyolus punctatus View in CoL , is here redescribed with illustrations and synonymy as an initial step in the eventual revision of the genus.
