Etymology. The generic name derived from “ensiger”, that means “sword-bearing”, for the sharp tooth in basis of pereopod 7; and the ending “opus”, as other genera of platyischnopids.

Diagnosis. Head with apical rostral process between antenna 1, rostrum with apical sensorial organ. Antenna 1 article 2 not exceeding 1.1 × as long as article 1, bearing one main subdistal group of robust setae. Antenna 2 (in female), article 4 not elongate and with few setae. Mandible incisors large, broad, poorly dentate; left lacinia mobilis thin and linguiform, right lacinia mobilis flabellate; molar absent; palp 3-articulate. Maxilla 1 inner plate subrounded, with one subdistal seta; outer plate with 8 robust setae; palp 1-articulate, distal margin with 5 setae. Maxilliped both inner and outer plate weakly developed, with few setae; palp article 2 medially sparsely setose; dactyl unguiform, lacking unguis. Coxae 1–4 increasing in size; coxa 1 rectangular; coxa 4 very large, with broadly rectangular posterior lobe. Gnathopods 1–2 similar in size, but 1 slightly smaller, strongly chelate, palm strongly obtuse. Pereopod 5 basis expanded posterodistally. Pereopod 7 coxa posterior margin acute; basis with an elongate posterior tooth. Pleon dorsally smooth. Uropod 3 article 2 of outer ramus broad, long, with marginal robust setae. Telson emarginated, without dorsal robust setae, with submarginal robust setae near apex; lateral margins with brush of several long setae.
