29. Itonida

[ Itonida ] Meigen, 1800: 19.

CURRENT STATUS: Unavailable name; work suppressed for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678]); treated under Cecidomyia Meigen, 1803 [teste Gagné & Jaschhof (2014: 139)].

[ Itonida ] Bezzi, 1907a: 56.

CURRENT STATUS: Unavailable name; criteria to make the name available not fulfilled in this work. REMARKS: Bezzi (1907a) included this name only in a list of Meigen 1800 names without stating their availability.

Itonida Bezzi, 1908c: 11 .

ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: None.

FIRST INCLUDED SPECIES: Tipula pini De Geer, 1776 (in Hendel 1908: 49).

TYPE SPECIES: Tipula pini De Geer, 1776 , by monotypy (Hendel 1908: 49).

CURRENT STATUS: Junior synonym of Cecidomyia Meigen, 1803 . New Synonymy.

FAMILY: CECIDOMYIIDAE .

REMARKS: Itonida was originally proposed by Meigen (1800: 19) without included species and later made unavailable by the suppression of the entire work for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of the I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678]). Bezzi (1908c: 11) was the first after Meigen (1800) to give characters to differentiate the taxon and to treat Itonida as a valid name, which makes it available from that work. Bezzi (1908c) did not include any species. Hendel (1908) included a single species: Tipula pini De Geer, 1776 , which is the type species by subsequent monotypy. Tipula pini De Geer, 1776 is currently treated in Cecidomyia Meigen, 1803 [teste Gagné (2004: 100)], which makes Itonida Bezzi, 1908 a junior synonym of Cecidomyia Meigen, 1803 , n. syn. Gagné & Jaschhof (2014: 139) believed the first included species, and type species by subsequent monotypy, to be Tipula pini De Geer, 1776 in Coquillett (1910a: 556) , but Hendel (1908: 49) listed the same species and is earlier.
