Holotype: BPBM 12223, 93.1 mm SL, male.

Type locality: Hiva Oa, northwest side of Tepuhiaatuna Point, Marquesas Islands, depth 20 meters. Illustrations: Kuiter, 2004:48, figs. A–C (above); Randall & Pyle, 2001:31, figs. 9–11; Williams, et al., 2013:177, fig. 10.

D: X, 17 or 18 (usually 17). A: III, 7. P: 19 to 21(rarely 21). C: 15 (8 + 7). V: 26 (10 + 16). S: 3. GR: 11 to 13 + 25 to 27. LL: 45 to 48. CP: 26 or 27 (usually 26).

Distribution: central South Pacific off Marquesas Islands ( French Polynesia).
