Holotype: TUFIL W.1301 (whereabouts unknown, Eschmeyer et al., online), 90.0 mm TL, female.

Type locality: western Pacific: off Itoman, Okinawa Island, Ryukyu Islands, Japan. Illustrations: Kuiter, 2004:98, figs. A–D; Randall & Heemstra, 1978:167, figs. 1 & 2.

Distribution: western Pacific: Indonesia to Palau and Fiji and Solomon Islands, northestern Australia to Japan.
