Remarks. This species was included in the copiosus group by Wirth & Blanton (1959). In their key to species, Wirth & Hubert (1960) mainly recognized this species by the anterior portion of its darkly pigmented wing. Wirth (1974) in the Neotropical catalogue assigns it to the subgenus Drymodesmyia Vargas. This group includes 15 species in Mexico. In their review of the copiosus group, Wirth & Hubert (1960) included all the species in the key were illustrated except for Culicoides wirthomyia Vargas and C. propinquus Macfie.
