Genus Horatosphaga Schaum 1853

http://lsid.speciesfile.org/urn:lsid: Orthoptera .speciesfile.org:TaxonName:10890

According to Ragge (1960) the genus Horatosphaga is characterized by the basal part of the anterior medial area (MA) of the forewings, which is developed into a longitudinal concavity with a reduced venation, the basally enlarged area Cu1a, cross veins (mainly in costal and anterior medial areas) that are arranged in closely parallel fashion forming a web-like pattern and the R s or its branches ending at the wing tips. The fastigium of the frons almost reaches the top of the antennal scrobes and the tympanic auricles of the fore tibiae are often inflated. Females differ by a fastigium of the vertex which is sloping steeply to the frons, a pronotum that sometimes has lateral carinae, tympana of the fore tibiae that are not inflated, unmodified fore wings and rudimentary hind wings. Horatosphaga is a very heterogeneous genus, with variable characters among species which differ in length of wings, sexual dimorphism and ovipositor shape, etc. Within Horatosphaga 30 species are currently listed, of which, after the revision of Ragge (1960), three have been described by Hemp (2002, 2006, 2007) and one by Massa (2015a). In addition, Hemp et al. (2010) have described the genus Altihoratosphaga , including four species, three of which were previously included in the genus Horatosphaga , A. montivaga (Sjöstedt 1910) , A. nomima (Karsch 1896) and A. nou ( Hemp 2006) . The forth species is A. hanangensis Hemp et al. 2010 .
