Diagnosis. The following set of features may be used to diagnose females of C. sidemii among the Tibetan Colletes : bees relatively large (HW 3.1–3.4 mm), malar area 0.5× as long as basal width of mandible and mesoscutal black hairs absent. The combination of head and mesosomal dorsum covered with pale-yellow pubescence without black hairs and malar area as long as basal width of mandible is sufficient to tell males of C. sidemii apart, except from those of C. sichuanensis , but they can be differentiated by the lower face with relatively long hairs in C. sidemii (lower face with very short hairs in C. sichuanensis ). Overall, C. sidemii most closely resembles C. sanctus , but in the former the malar area is only 0.5× (♀) and 1.0× (♂) as long as basal width of mandible, respectively (malar area 1.0× (♀) and 1.4× (♂) as long as basal width of mandible in the latter). Their females may be further differentiated by the mesosoma covered with pale-orange pubescence in C. sidemii (mesosoma with reddish-brown pubescence in C. sanctus ) and their males by the S7 apicolateral lobe with neck much longer than disc in C. sidemii (neck subequal to disc in C. sanctus ).

Remarks. Both sexes of C. sidemii exhibit very little morphological variation over the species’ range within China, where it occupies several different environments. However, further comparative study, preferably coupled

Male and female syntypes of C. sidemii that were previously suspected to be deposited in the ISEAPAS ( Noskiewicz 1936: 458) could not be located there by M. Proshchalykin. However, he found one male (Tschita, Amur // sidemii Rad. = mongolicus Per. , male) and one female (Amour sidemii // Coll. Rados. // sidemii // Typus // sidemii Rad. det. – Colletes sidemii Rad. , female, Noskiewitz det.) with Radoszkowski’s handwritten labels in the ZMB that may belong to the species’ type series (M. Proshchalykin, pers. comm.).
