Diagnosis. The following set of features is sufficient to diagnose females of C. tibeticus among the Tibetan Colletes : clypeus longer than broad, mesoscutum covered with pale-orange pubescence and T2 without basal band. Males are diagnosable by the combination of malar area 1.25× as long as basal width of mandible, face and mesosomal dorsum with pale-yellow pubescence and S7 with a largely-glabrous subtriangular apex. Colletes tibeticus is most similar to C. paratibeticus , but in both sexes of the latter the paraocular area has a well-defined longitudinal band of black hairs (paraocular area without black hairs in both sexes of the former). Females of the two species can be further differentiated by the T1 with a complete apical band in C. tibeticus (T1 with a medially interrupted apical band in C. paratibeticus ) and the males by the hind basitarsus 4.5× as long as broad in C. tibeticus (hind basitarsus 3.75× as long as broad in C. paratibeticus ).

Distribution. Western China (Xizang) and Central Nepal.
DNA barcode. Available (2 ♂). See also Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 and Table 1.
Floral hosts. Unknown.
Remarks. Colletes tibeticus is likely sister to the new species described herein as C. splendidus sp. nov. In fact, the two species along with C. paratibeticus form a well-delimited subgroup within the C. clypearis group, in which the male S7 is broadly convex basally and abruptly narrowed towards a subtriangular, poorly-sclerotized apex (see Figs 12F View FIGURE 12 , 16F, 18F).
