Diagnosis. Thorax with dark brown to black tegument and yellow to yellowish-orange hairs; abdomen varying from light brown almost yellow to black, with light yellow stripes on the distal margin of the tergites.

Redescription. Female (lectotype). Head. Frons dark brown, with yellow hairs and yellow pollinosity beside the mid-callus and laterally, forming stripes along the margin of the eyes. Frontal callus as wide as frons; mid-callus long, almost reaching the vertex. Subcallus dark brown with dense silver pollinosity, best seen in dorsal view; base of the antenna and margin of the eyes with yellow pollinosity. Scape and pedicel dark brown with black hairs. Flagellum light brown with golden pollinosity. Basal flagellomere with dorsal spine reaching the second flagellomere; basal flagellomere with ventral angle. Face, parafacia, gena and postgena dark brown with dense silver pollinosity; yellowish-gray pollinosity by the margin of the eyes. Gena with reddish-brown hairs and postgena with yellow hairs. Palpus dark brown with black hairs.

Thorax. Scutum dark brown to black, with gray pollinosity and dense yellowish-orange hairs. Scutellum lighter than the scutum, with dense yellowish-orange hairs. Postpronotal lobe light brown, with sparse yellowish pollinosity and yellowish-orange hairs. Notopleuron lighter than the scutum, with yellowish-orange hairs and yellowish-gray pollinosity. Proepisternum and proepimeron dark brown with yellowish-orange hairs. Anepisternum and anepimeron dark brown with yellowish-orange hairs; katepisternum dark brown with yellowish-orange hairs; katepimeron dark brown with silver pollinosity; few white hairs on base of wing, beside the basicosta. Coxa dark brown with gray pollinosity and yellowish-orange hairs. Femur 1 dark brown with black hairs; femora 2 and 3 light brown with black hairs. Tibia 1 proximally light brown with white hairs on the anterior, anterodorsal, dorsal, posterodorsal and posterior sides; the other parts of the tibia dark brown with dark brown to black hairs. Tibia 2 light brown, with white hairs proximally on the anterior, anterodorsal, dorsal, posterodorsal and posterior sides; the other parts of tibia 2 with dark brown to black hairs. Tibia 3 light brown, with white hairs proximally on the anterodorsal side, the other parts of the tibia with dark brown to black hairs. Tarsi 1 and 3 light brown with mixed white and black hairs; tarsus 2 with white hairs; reddish hairs on the ventral side of tarsi. Wing yellow; hyaline spot on the base of cell r1; venation light brown. Pterostigma yellow. Halter yellow with whitish apex.

Abdomen. Tergites light brown with yellowish-orange hairs, the distal margins yellow with rows of yellow hairs, forming bands. Sternites dark brown with black hairs proximally, the distal margins yellow with rows of yellow hairs, forming bands.

Measurements. (n = 1, lectotype) Body length: 11.86mm. Wing length: 9.86mm. Frontal index: 4.26. Divergence index: 1.40.

Description. Male (Manaus, 21-30.x.1997). Head. Dorsal part of the eye yellow to light brown, with large ommatidia; ventral part of the eye black, with small ommatidia. Subcallus brown with gray pollinosity. Base of antenna with dense silver gray pollinosity. Antenna brown; scape with mixed black and white hairs; pedicel with black hairs; flagellum with golden pollinosity. Basal flagellomere with dorsal spine reaching the second flagellomere. Face and parafacia dark brown with dense silver pollinosity and yellow hairs. Gena and postgena dark brown with dense silver pollinosity and yellow hairs. Palpus light brown with sparse gray pollinosity and mixed black and yellow hairs.

Thorax. Scutum and scutellum dark brown to black with gray pollinosity and dense yellowish-orange hairs. Postpronotal lobe light brown, with silver gray pollinosity and white hairs. Notopleuron light brown, with silver gray pollinosity and yellow hairs. Proepisternum light brown with silver gray pollinosity and mixed yellow and white hairs. Proepimeron light brown with silver gray pollinosity and mixed yellow and black hairs. Anepisternum light brown with silver gray pollinosity and yellow hairs, with few white hairs on base of wing, beside the basicosta. Anepimeron and katatergite light-brown, with silver gray pollinosity and yellow hairs. Katepisternum dark brown, with silver gray pollinosity. Coxa brown, with silver gray pollinosity and yellow hairs. Femur 1 dark brown with black hairs. Femora 2 and 3 lighter than femur 1, with mixed yellow and black hairs. Tibia 1 dark brown with black hairs, except for white hairs proximally on the anterior, anterodorsal, dorsal and posterodorsal sides. Tibia 2 lighter than tibia 1, with white hairs on the anterior, anterodorsal, dorsal and posterodorsal sides and black hairs on the other parts. Tibia 3 dark brown with black hairs, except for white hairs proximally on the anterior, anterodorsal and dorsal sides. Tarsus 1 dark brown with mixed white and black hairs on the dorsal side and reddish hairs on the ventral side. Tarsus 2 lighter than tarsus 1, with white hairs on the dorsal side and reddish hairs on the ventral side. Tarsus 3 the same color as tarsus 2, with mixed white and black hairs on the dorsal side and reddish hairs on the ventral side. Wing yellowish; pterostigma yellow; venation yellow. Halter yellow with whitish apex.

Abdomen. Tergites 1 and 2 brown, with yellow hairs proximally and distal margin with silver gray pollinosity and white hairs. The other tergites brown, with black hairs proximally and distal margin with silver gray pollinosity and white hairs. Sternites brown, with black hairs proximally and distal margin with silver gray pollinosity and white hairs.

Measurements. (n = 1, Manaus, 21-30.x.1997) Body length: 12.71mm. Wing length: 9.71mm.

Variation. The integument’s color and the hairs’ in the abdomen may vary from light yellow to black.

Type-locality. Brazil.

Distribution. Costa Rica to Brazil (Pará, Amazonas).
