Type material: Holotype male (BDN no. 21805), CHINA: Xinjiang Autonomous Region, Habahe River, Baihualin Nature Reserve, 15.vii.2002, sweep net, H. Tang.
Etymology. From Latin crena, projection, referring to the shape of the inferior volsella.
Diagnostic characters. The species is similar to P. undine ( Townes, 1945) in the shape of superior and inferior volsella, but differs in the following characters: mid- and hind tibiae with single spurs, inferior volsella with projection bearing short setae and microtrichia, anal tergite bands V-shaped.
Male (n = 1). Total length 3.30 mm. Wing length 1.75 mm. Total length / wing length 1.89. Wing length / length of profemur 2.40.
Coloration. Thorax yellowish green; vittae, preepisternum and median anepisternum yellowish brown; anterior 1/3 of postnotum dark brown. Foreleg with basal 4/5 of femur yellowish green, apex of femur and tibiae dark brown, tarsi broken; midleg with tarsal segments dark brown towards apex, remainder yellowish green; hind leg with femur, tibia and ta1 yellowish green, remainder broken. Abdomen yellowish green, with brown hypopygium.
Head. AR 1.64. Ultimate flagellomere 590 Μm long. Frontal tubercles swollen apically, 23 Μm long, 10 Μm wide. Temporal 14 setae including 6 inner verticals, 6 outer verticals and 2 postorbitals. Clypeus with 11 setae. Tentorium 118 Μm long, 32 Μm wide. Palpomere lengths (in Μm): 35, 47, 105, 142, palpomere 5 broken. Thorax. Antepronotals 2, dorsocentrals 9, acrostichals 3, prealars 3. Scutellum with 6 setae. Wing ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 18 – 21 ). VR 1.16. Brachiolum with 2 setae, R with 14, R1 with 9, R4+5 with 18 setae. Squama with 6 setae.
Legs. Foretibia with subapical setae broken; mid- and hind tibia with single spur; spur of midtibia 33 Μm long, comb with 28 teeth, 10 Μm long; spur of hind tibia 30 Μm long, comb with 46 teeth, 10 Μm long. Mid ta1 with 2 sensilla chaetica at apex. Lengths and proportions of legs as in Table 4 View TABLE 4 .
Hypopygium ( Figs 19–21 View FIGURES 18 – 21 ). Tergite IX with 12 setae at base of anal point. Laterosternite IX with 2 setae. Anal point parallel-sided, with blunt apex, 42 Μm long, 8 Μm wide at base. Anal tergite bands V-shaped. Phallapodeme 75 Μm long. Transverse sternapodeme 58 Μm long. Superior volsella ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 18 – 21 ) clavate, with 10 strong apical setae, bearing microtrichia. Inferior volsella well developed, with distinct rounded to quadrate lobe, covered with microtrichia, with projection bearing 5–7 short setae and microtrichia. Gonocoxite 100 Μm long, inner margin with 4 strong setae. Gonostylus 155 Μm long, with weak longitudinal keel, inner margin with 12–14 setae. HR 0.65, HV 2.13.
Distribution. The new species is recorded from Xinjiang Autonomous Region, China.
