Subgenus Perileptus View in CoL

Perileptus (Perileptus) pusillus Jeannel, 1923 View in CoL

Uéno (1974), Uéno & Yin (1993) and Moravec et al. (2003) list this species for Hong Kong. Jeanel (1923) and Darlington (1962) list Perileptus japonicus Bates, 1873 View in CoL as occurring in Hong Kong. Jeanel (1923), citing specimens collected by Walker, and in his key distinguished it from P. pusillus View in CoL mainly on the shape of the pronotum. According to Uéno (1974) and Uéno & Yin (1993), Jeanel had misidentified the Hong Kong specimens as Perileptus japonicus Bates, 1873 View in CoL , due to the variability in the shape of the pronotum and the Hong Kong specimens were Perileptus pusillus Jeannel, 1923 View in CoL . Material: 1 ex. W.T.L., 15.ii.09; 1 ex. W.T.L., 12.v.14; 1 ex. W.T.L., 24.v.09; 3 exx. W.T.L., 4.ix.10; 1 ex. W.T.L., 25.ix.08; 1 ex. W.T.L., October 2 010; 1 ex. W.T.L., October 2010; 1 ex. W.T.L., November 2010; 1 ex. W.T.L. 1.xii.15. Determined from Uéno & Yin (1993). Biology: Imago February, May and September to December. This species appears to be common close to unpolluted rivers from February to September. Interestingly this species was collected by Uéno on the Kowloon peninsula on 22 April 1965 where it occurred on the gravely banks of a clear stream, twelve years later it had totally disappeared from that locality due to pollution. Frequently comes to light. A live specimen of this species was observed apparently jumping. Fully winged.

There is a single specimen perhaps corresponding to another species of this genus, somewhat larger and paler than P. pusillus View in CoL . Material: 1 ex. W.T.L., 25.ix.08. Biology: Imago September. Only collected at light. Presumably capable of flight
