Ampullaria pulchella Anton, 1838 View in CoL . Type material — syntypes: MTD 1147 (2 spms.). Type locality —“Strom Parana in Brasilien ” [River Parana in Brasil].

Remarks. Cowie & Thiengo (2003: 48) stated that the location of the type material and the type locality were unknown to them. In fact, a specimen identified, listed and illustrated by Schniebs (2002: 266, figs. 1a, b) as the “ holotype ” is in Dresden (MTD 1147). Its locality, as given in Anton’s handwritten inventory of his collection, is “Strom Parana in Brasilien ”. However, K. Schniebs (pers. comm. 2 February 2004) says that there were in fact three specimens in Anton’s possession. That identified as the “ holotype ” above was obtained by Anton from a Mr. Marguier and is the specimen from which Anton wrote the detailed description. A second specimen is from a Mr. Tile and is also listed as from “Parana in Brasilien ” in Anton’s handwritten catalog. A third specimen has no locality but Anton received it also from Mr. Tile. When the MTD mollusc collection was inventoried at the end of the 19th century, the third specimen was no longer present. The first two specimens were both given the MTD catalog number 1147. The identification by Schniebs (2002: 266, figs. 1a, b) of one of these as the “ holotype ” was not a valid lectotype designation (Code, Art. 74.7). Therefore, rather than a holotype and paratype, there are in fact two remaining syntypes.
