Culcita coniifolia (Hook.) Maxon, Rep. (Annual) Board Regents Smithsonian Inst. 1911: 488, t. 13C. 1912. Range: —Greater Antilles; mountains from southern Mexico to Venezuela, south to Bolivia (CO, LP, SC) and southeastern Brazil. Ecology: —Fairly common; terrestrial in humid forests; 2000–3300 m.
Notes: —Leaves are large, 1–3 m long, and blades much more dissected than in the allied families Dicksoniaceae and Cyatheaceae . The leaves are more reminiscent of some species of Saccoloma ( Saccolomataceae ), which is more distantly related and has conical (not bivalvate) indusia and abaxial sori.
