Comments. In the world catalog of the family ( Woodley 2001: 178), the genus Thorasena Macquart, 1838 is synonym of Hermetia Latreille, 1804 . Recently, the examination of the type species, H. pectoralis Wiedemann, 1824 , by Hauser et al. (2017: 81) revealed that it does not belong to the Hermetiinae , but it is a Pachygastrinae and it was revalidated.

Syntype: female (NHRS; only one original syntype of Linnaeus’s description is found, stated a female; other two specimens of Musca illucens are of the family Mydidae View in CoL , clearly not the original syntypes; see Rozkošný, 1983: 173; Lessard et al. 2019: 9). Type locality: “South America”. Distr.: Chile: Valparaíso Region to Los Lagos Region. Worldwide (see Woodley, 2001).
Refs.: Elgueta, 1989: 97 (distr.); Woodley, 2001: 182 (cat.); Pujol-Luz & Pujol-Luz, 2014: 405 (list); Pujol-Luz et al., 2016 (list).
Comments. Originally from the Americas, Hermetia illucens is occurring in all other tropical and in many subtropical and temperate regions. The species is non-native to Chile, as native populations are considered from northern parts of South America to the southern parts of the US (see Marshall et al. 2015; Ståhls et al. 2020). For the country, the historical spread of the species is still to be mapped, only Elgueta (1989) reported the species to occur from the Valparaíso Region to Los Lagos Region (between 30°S to 45°S), with the oldest record dated in 1981.
