Monarda punctata Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 1: 22. 1753 View Cited Treatment .

"Habitat in Virginia." RCN: 179.

Lectotype (Reveal in Jarvis & al. in Taxon 50: 514. 2001): Herb. Linn. No. 40.6 ( LINN) .

Current name: Monarda punctata L. ( Lamiaceae ).

Note: Epling (in J. Bot. 67: 4. 1929), followed by various later authors, noted material in LINN, evidently sheet 40.6, as the "standard specimen" (not the same as the type). However, sheet 40.6 is the only relevant original element at LINN and, since it corresponds with current usage, was designated as lectotype by Reveal.
