Diagnosis. Ecnomina serrata is distinguished by the superior appendages not being dorso-ventrally flattened distally and the relatively long, tapered processes on tergum X.

Description. Head, body and wings brown, abdomen paler ventrally; wings similar to E. merki ( Fig. 172 View FIGURES 168–174 ). Forewing length about 2.7–2.9 times width: male 2.9–3.8 mm, female 3.2–4.3 mm. Forewing fork 2 relatively long, sessile, length about 1.3–1.5 times length of fork 3; fork 3 relatively long, with short footstalk, length fork about 2.9–5.6 times length footstalk, footstalk length about 0.9–1.5 times length cross-vein m, r-m and m nearly contiguous at footstalk fork 3, r-m and m separated by about 0.4–0.5 times length of cross-vein m; fork 4 present, slightly shorter than fork 3; fork 5 long, length about twice length of fork 4. Hindwing length about 2.9–3.3 times width, fork 2 sessile or with very short footstalk, footstalk length about 0–0.2 times length cross-vein r-m, fork length about 1.6–1.8 times length of fork 3.

Male Tergum X membranous, with one pair of relatively long, robust dorsal processes, relatively widely separated, broad based and tapered distally, serrated mesally ( Fig. 167 View FIGURES 162–167 ). Superior appendages in lateral view, relatively slender, length about 5 times width, tapered slightly distally ( Fig. 165 View FIGURES 162–167 ); in dorsal view, length about 4 times width, with several pairs of longer mesal spines distally ( Fig. 167 View FIGURES 162–167 ). Phallus simple, tube-like, robust ( Fig. 165 View FIGURES 162–167 ). Inferior appendages short; in ventral view, length about 0.6 times width, fused in basal three quar- ters, dilated and truncated distally, with small oval excision meso-distally ( Fig. 166 View FIGURES 162–167 ); in lateral view, slender, length about 4 times width ( Fig. 165 View FIGURES 162–167 ).

Female. Genitalia with a single, short, slender mesal process on sternite VIII, with a pair of small triangular structures at base; segment IX relatively long, tapered slightly distally, segment X relatively short and segments IX and X relatively slender ( Fig. 194 View FIGURES 184–195 ).
