Figures 19–21 View FIGURES 19–24 , 57 View FIGURES 55–62
Diagnosis. Daternomina ulltra can be distinguished from all other Daternomina species , particularly D. trulla , by possessing inferior appendages which are short, fused basally, curved laterally, and with a relatively deep V-shaped notch distally and a strongly down curved phallic guide.
Description. Head, body and wings brown; wings similar to D. irrorata ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1–6 ). Forewing length about 3.0–3.2 times width: male 3.9–4.0 mm, female 4.2 mm. Forewing fork 2 relatively long, sessile or with short footstalk, fork 2 length about 1.5–1.8 times length of fork 3, length footstalk if present, less than 0.5 times length cross-vein r-m, nygma present; fork 3 relatively long, length about 2.5–2.7 times length footstalk, footstalk length about 1.6–1.8 times length cross-vein m; r-m and m displaced at fork 3 by about 1.3–1.4 times length cross-vein m; fork 4 length similar to fork 3; fork 5 long, about 1.8 times length of fork 4. Hindwing length about 3 times width; fork 2 sessile or with short footstalk, fork 2 about 1.5–1.7 times length of fork 3, footstalk if present, less than 0.5 times length cross-vein r-m..
Male. Tergum X membranous, short, rounded distally, with a small mesal split ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 19–24 ). Superior appendages laterally compressed; in lateral view, robust, sub-rectangular, length about 3 times width ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 19–24 ); in dorsal view, relatively slender, length about 6 times width, with a large group of spines on inner surface ( Fig. 21 View FIGURES 19–24 ). Phallus laterally compressed, with a long embedded spine; with a slender, hooked or down-curved process (phallic guide) arising from near the base of the inferior appendages ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 19–24 ). Inferior appendages small; in ventral view, fused basally, with rounded sides laterally, with a relatively deep V-shaped notch distally, dividing at least the distal half ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 19–24 ); in lateral view, slender and straight ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 19–24 ).
Female. Genitalia with a pair of large relatively widely separated ‘tongue-shaped’ lobes on sternite VIII, with characteristic ‘small dark lobes’ visible mesally ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 55–62 ).
Holotype male: (specimen CT-449 figured), Victoria. Yarra R., 2 km NE Warrandyte (about 37°43'S 143°38'E), 13 Jan 1976, A.N. ( NMV, T-19566). GoogleMaps
Paratypes: Victoria. 5 females (specimen CT-500 figured), collected with holotype GoogleMaps .
Other material examined: Victoria. 6 females, Yarra R., 4 km SE of Kangaroo Ground , 17 Jan 1976 , A.N; 2 females, Yarra R., 2 km N Wonga Park , 23 Feb. 1976 , A.N. Queensland. 1 male, Bulimba Ck nr Brisbane, Kinmax St riffle, 23 Oct 1979 , collector?; 2 males, Camp Mt, 31 Mar 1967, N. Dobrotworsky.
Etymology. Ulltra - anagram of trulla.
Remarks. Daternomina ulltra is known from only four male specimens (plus thirteen females) recorded from three widely separated localities, one in central Victoria and two in south-eastern Queensland (latitudinal range 27°23'- 37°43'S).
