Material examined. 1 non-ovigerous specimen (cl 5.0 mm), MZUSP 33663, Panama, Las Perlas Archipelago, Isla Casayeta, shallow muddy bay fringed by mangroves, under muddy intertidal rocks at low tide, leg. A. Anker, 20.04.2015; 1 ovigerous specimen (cl 4.9 mm), OUMNH. ZC. 2015-08-014, same collection data as for previous specimen.

Description. See Anker (2011).

Colouration. Semitransparent creamy whitish, sometimes with slight yellowish tinge; gonads or fresh eggs yellow ( Anker 2011; see also Fig. 7 ).

Type locality. Southwest of Ciudad de Panamá (Panama City), Pacific coast of Panama .

Distribution. Eastern Pacific: Colombia (Bahía Málaga) and Panama (Chumical, Veracruz, Las Perlas Islands).

Ecology. Intertidal and very shallow subtidal; rocky and mixed rocky-sandy shores, sometimes close to mangroves; under muddy rocks.

Remarks. Among the eastern Pacific Alpheidae , Salmoneus excavatus is the only species with a dorsally deeply indented carapace ( Anker 2011; dorsal depression visible as a thin longitudinal line in Fig. 7c ). The species was described based on only four specimens, three from the Pacific coast of Panama (Chumical and Veracruz areas west of Panama City) and one from Colombia (Bahía Málaga). It is now recorded for the first time from Las Perlas Archipelago in the Bay of Panama.
