Genus Beatragus Heller 1912 (1 species)

Genus Connochaetes Lichtenstein 1812 (2 species with 5 subspecies)

Genus Damaliscus Sclater and Thomas 1894 (4 species with 5 subspecies)

Discussion: Living genera assigned to two subtribes by Vrba (1997), Alcelaphini (including Alcelaphus , Beatragus , and Connochaetes ) and Damaliscini (includes only Damaliscus ), but retention of flehmen behavior, lost in Alcelaphus and Damaliscus ( Estes, 1999) , and karyology suggests Beatragus is sister group of Alcelaphus plus Damaliscus ( Kumamoto et al., 1996; Robinson et al., 1991).
