Diagnosis. Ernocornutia pilaloana is similar to E. capronata and E. catopta externally and in the shape of the gnathos and aedeagus. However, E. pilaloana can be distinguished by the large spiny termination of the sacculus that is more similar to that of E. pululahuana and E. carycodes .

Description. Wing span ca. 18 mm. Head and thorax very similar to that of E. termasiana . Forewing cream brown with some small paler areas, with brown suffusions and brown dots; remnants of markings brown, retained mostly at costa and middle of wing; pale line edging subapical marking weakly convex. Cilia concolorous with wing. Hindwing white cream with some brownish strigula. Cilia concolorous with wing.

Male genitalia ( Figs. 16 View FIGURES 15 – 17 a, 16b). Uncus relatively short, clavate, slender basally, rounded apically; terminal process of gnathos arms large, slightly curved basally, spiny; basal third of sacculus broad, median portion almost straight, termination large, strongly spined; aedeagus broad, bent in basal two-fifths, with distinct ventral termination; cornuti in form of sclerotized plates.

Female unknown.

Holotype male: “ Ecuador, Prov. Cotopaxi, via La Maná, Pilaló, 2.09.2004, 3200 m, leg. Wojtusiak & Pyrcz”, GS 297 (MZUJ).
