( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 10 , 12 View FIGURES 11 – 14 a, 12b, 18)
Diagnosis. Ernocornutia paracatopta is closely related to the Colombian E. catopta , but E. paracatopta has a much longer spiny lobe at the end of gnathos arms, a shorter basal part of the sacculus, a longer ventral concavity of the sacculus, and a broader, shorter aedeagus. The female of E. paracatopta is distinguished primarily by the broad proximal part of the ductus bursae.
Description. Wing span ca. 18 mm. Head brown, frons cream brown, labial palpus brown, ca. 3 times horizontal diameter of compound eye; thorax dark brown. Forewing typical of genus; ground colour greyish brown with darker strigulation; markings indistinct, darker than ground colour; two indistinct brownish white lines separating apical third of wing. Cilia concolorous with ground colour. Hindwing cream with brown admixture on periphery and cream-grey strigulation. Cilia cream.
Variation. Coloration of forewing scales varies from pale to dark brown. Females lack brownish white lines in forewing.
Male genitalia ( Figs. 12 View FIGURES 11 – 14 a, 12b). Basal part of uncus slender, distal part club-shaped, rounded apically; terminal lobe of gnathos arms large, with weak lateral spinulation; valva slender; sacculus long, slender, with short basal portion and triangular terminal lobe armed with group of short spines; aedeagus broad; coecum penis small.
Female genitalia ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 18 – 21 ). Sclerites of sterigma slender; antrum short, tapering proximally, with small ventral sclerite; ductus bursae slender before antrum, remainder broad.
