PHOTOS 7–12. Papuabarcinus species. 7 papuensis ♂ (Irian Jaya, Bime); 8— papuensis ♀ (Bime); 9— laminiferus ♀ (Irian Jaya, Manokwari); 10— truncatus ♀ ( Papua View in CoL New Guinea, Wau); 11— productus ♀ (Irian Jaya, Manokwari); 12— ceramensis ♂ (Buru Island).

Papuabarcinus truncatus was described from Sattelberg (Huon Gulf) and later recorded by Kormilev from New Guinea and Bismarck Archipelago (New Britain and New Ireland) without giving locality names. The types are deposited in the Natural History Museum in Budapest a paratype was available for comparison .

Material examined: 1♂ paratype card mounted:”N. Guinea / Biró 1898”//”Sattelberg/ Huon Gulf”// ” Barcinus / laminiferus / (Walker)/ Det.N.Kormilev 53”//” Barcinus / biroi / Kormilev 54”// Paratype ”. Kormilev obviously identified this specimen in 1953 as laminiferus and recognised and labelled it 1954 as biroi, which remained a nomen nudum. Only in 1955 was it included as a paratype when describing the series as Barcinus truncatus n. sp. ( CEHI); 1♂ pinned:” Papua : Kokoda/ 1.200 ft IX 1933 / L.E.Cheesman/ B.M. 1934-321”; 1♀ pinned:”New Guinea: NE/ Wau, Mt.Missim/ 950–1300m / 8–9 I 1966 ”//”J.& M.Sedlacek/ collectors/ Bishop”/ /” Barcinus / truncatus / Kormilev/ Det.N.Kormilev 72”; 1♂ card mounted:”N. Guinea: NE/ Bulolo Vatu/ 300– 800m ”//” 1–7 VI 1969 ”//”J.Sedlacek/ collector/ Bishop Mus.”//” Barcinus / truncatus / Kormilev/ Det.N.Kormilev 72” (pygophore and right paramere mounted separately on card). All CEHI ex coll. Kormilev.

This species can only be confounded with Papuabarcinus productus Usinger & Matsuda 1959 with which it shares the truncate terminal segments with a large laterally expanded lobe of deltg VI and much shorter and smaller triangular lobe of deltg VII. It can be distinguished from productus by the smaller and shorter posterior lobe of deltg VII, its apex not reaching the level of deltgVI lobe (figs. 23, 24) and the distinctly dentate not rounded pe-angles of deltg IV and V of males (fig. 23).

The description given by Kormilev is very detailed; additional information concern the male genitalic structures: upper part of the pygophore conically projecting over rounded lower portion, a character common for the genus.

Measurements: Male paratype: Length 11.7mm; head length/width 26/14.5; pronotum 2.22x as wide as long at middle (40/18); scutellum w/l 22714; length of antennal segments I/II/III/I/V = 15/8/15/8; ratio length of antennae / width of head 3.17 (46/14.5); width of abdomen across tergite III 54, VI 61, VII 27.

Variation of length: ♂ 11.5 mm (holotype 12.7 mm); ♀ 11.8–11.9 mm.

Distribution: The known records are all from NE-New Guinea which may also result from few localities ancient and more recent collectors visited. Map 2.
