Juno albomarginata (R.C.Foster) Vved. ex M.B.Crespo, Mart. View in CoL -Azorín & Mavrodiev comb. nov.

Iris albomarginata Foster (1936: 42) View in CoL , basionym ≡ Iris coerulea Fedtschenko (1904: 917) View in CoL , nom. illeg. [non Spach (1846: 50)] ≡ Juno coerulea Poljakov View in CoL in Pavlov (1958: 250), nom. illeg. ≡ Iris fedtschenkoi Khassanov & Rakhimova (2012: 178) View in CoL , nom. superfl. Lectotype (designated by Boltenkov 2016a: 227):— UZBEKISTAN. [Tashkent Region], Western Tien Shan, Pskem River valley, “Semessas” [Semizsaz-Say], 9 August 1902, B. Fedtschenko s.n. [originally in Russian] (LE00050054 [digital image!]).

Juno albomarginata (R.C.Foster) Rodionenko (1994: 105) View in CoL , comb. inval. (Art. 41.5 of the ICN).

Observations:— Iris albomarginata R.C.Foster View in CoL is the correct replacement name for the illegitimate I. coerulea B.Fedtsch. View in CoL , a species endemic to the Western Tian-Shan, namely to Ugam and Pskem Ranges in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan (Central Asia), with 2n = 26 ( Hall 2001, M. Johnson & T. Hall unpubl.).As recently pointed out by Lazkov & Sennikov (2017), when that species is accepted in Juno View in CoL , the usually admitted name Juno coerulea Poljakov View in CoL is illegitimate and unusable. In fact, Rodionenko (1994: 105) did not cite the name “ Juno coerulea Poljakov View in CoL ” in his taxonomical summary of the genus. Instead, he used the combination “ J. albomarginata (R.C.Foster) Vved. View in CoL ” ( Rodionenko 1994: 105), which is unfortunately invalid since no basionym was cited. In this context, a new combination is proposed here to accommodate Foster’s species in Juno View in CoL , which makes effective Rodionenko’s (1994) invalid combination. Regarding type designation by Boltenkov (2016a), the new definition of “original material” in Art. 9.4 of the Shenzhen Code, allows treatment of the voucher LE00050054 as a lectotype (otherwise it should be considered as neotype).
