Xanthocampoplex bellus Cresson, 1865 . Assigned by Townes and Townes (1966).

Holotype 3 (IES # 346) lacking wings; it is not a female as stated by previous workers. It is a very distinctive species as it is primarily yellow in colour with an inverted U-shaped black mark on the propodeum, and yellow spots on the mesoscutum, scutellum and anterodorsal part of the mesopleuron. Townes and Townes (1966) tentatively assigned it to Xanthocampoplex , presumably on the basis of its colour pattern. This species lacks any trace of a median ventral row of hairs characteristic of Xanthocampoplex , and has a more quadrate head than the very lenticular head characteristic of Old World Xanthocampolex. Although we cannot examine the wings we have no hesitation in placing this species in Hyposoter , where it resembles several other bright yellow Central American species.
