Type Locality: France, "dans le département des Bouches-du-Rhône, entre de Fos et l'embouchure du Galégeon" (= between Fos and the mouth of the Galégeon River).

Vernacular Names: Cuvier's Beaked Whale.

Synonyms: Ziphius australis (Burmeister 1865) ; Ziphius capensis (Gray 1865) ; Ziphius chathamensis (Hector 1873) ; Ziphius indicus Van Beneden 1863 .

Distribution: Worldwide: cold-temperate to tropical waters.

Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Data Deficient.
