Type material: Holotype: ♀, Catarinas [26°38’N, 105°31’W], Chihuahua, Mexico, 25 July 1947, W.J. Gertsch leg. ( AMNH).

Etymology. The specific name is a noun in apposition and refers to the type locality.

Diagnosis. Females of C. catarinas sp. nov. resemble those of C. bagaces sp. nov. by the epigyne with median septum with lateral projections resembling a pair of ears (Figs 23, 25: msp). They are distinguished by the median septum having a shallow, very short median indentation and by the posterior margin of the septum not surpassing the epigastric furrow (Fig. 25). Males are unknown.

Chelicerae orange with pair of longitudinal black stripes. Legs orange, mottled with small black spots. Pedipalps orange. Sternum orange with darker margins. Endites orange, distally cream colored. Labium brown, distally cream colored. Opisthosoma yellowish cream colored. Dorsally mottled with black spots. Ventrally with few scattered black spots. Total length 15.8. Prosoma: 7.7 long, 5.0 wide. Opisthosoma: 8.3 long, 6.7 wide. Eyes: diameters: 0.38, 0.35, 0.24, 0.29; interdistances: 0.27, 0.22, 0.64, 0.59, 0.40, 0.35. Legs (2143): I: 20.3 (5.8, 2.8, 4.9, 5.2, 1.6); II: 21.4 (6.1, 2.7, 5.4, 5.6, 1.6); III: 16.0 (5.2, 2.3, 3.7, 3.5, 1.3); IV: 16.7 (5.5, 2.3, 4.2, 4.7, 1.5). Epigyne: epigynal field very slightly longer than wide, roughly trapezoid. Median septum two times wider than long (Fig. 25). Vulva: copulatory ducts short, only one fourth of spermathecae length. Spermathecae large and oval. Basal part of fertilization ducts wide, slightly narrower than copulatory ducts relatively straight, distal part antero-mediad (Fig. 26).
