Vernacular Names: Long-tailed Spiny-rat.

Synonyms: Proechimys leucomystax Ribeiro 1914 ; Proechimys ribeiroi Moojen 1948 ; Proechimys villacauda Moojen 1948 .

Distribution: S Bolivia, N Paraguay, C Brazil.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Placed in longicaudatus group by Patton (1987). Formerly included brevicauda and roberti ( Moojen, 1948) . Includes ribeiroi and villacauda (J. Patton in litt.). Karyotype has 2n=28 and FN=48 ( Leal-Mesquita, 1991).
