Spinonychiurus spinularius ( Gisin, 1952) comb. nov.

( Figs 7–12 View FIGURES 7 – 12 )

Onychiurus spinularius Gisin, 1952: 15 .

Type material. Holotype (dried) of unknown sex, 2 paratypes (female and unreproductive male) mounted on one slide; very wet clay soil in Traimure wood (near Corsier), Querceto -Carpinetum aretosum, canton of Geneva, 10.iv.1949, Switzerland. Leg. H. Gisin (preserved in the collection the Museum of Natural History in Geneva).

Other material. Five females; heavy ground, Jussy wood, canton of Geneva, Switzerland (preserved in the collection the Museum of Natural History in Geneva).

Redescription. Color white. Body length: females 1.15–1.0 mm, males 0.9 mm. Body shape cylindrical with relatively long anal spines (ratio anal spine/inner edge of claw = 1.5–1.6) ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ). Granulation of body surface fine and uniform, without areas of stronger granulation. Antennal bases not marked.

Antennae nearly as long as head or slightly longer. Antennal segment IV with typical subapical organite. Microsensillum on antennal segment IV in latero-external position, distinctly above first proximal whorl of chaetae ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ). Antennal III sensory organ with 5 guard chaetae, 5 papillae, 2 small sensory rods and 2 smooth, bent with longitudinal ribs sensory clubs, and microsensillum located slightly below antennal III sensory organ ( Figs 9, 10 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ).

Postantennal organ consists of 12–15 granulated vesicles ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ). Labial palp of A type.

Pseudocellar formula: dorsally 34/233/44454, ventrally 1/000/0000. Subcoxae1 of I–III legs with 1 pseudocellus each. Parapseudocellar formula:?/000/ 112000. Localization of parapseudocelli on abdominal sterna I–VI as in Fig. 12 View FIGURES 7 – 12 . Parapseudocelli on subcoxae1 of I–III legs invisible.

Dorsal chaetotaxy with asymmetries, well differentiated into macro- meso- and microchaetae. Thoracic terga II and III with microsensilla laterally. Body sensory chaetae s dorsally cylindrical, poorly marked, distributed according to formula: 1/011/222121. Thoracic tergum I with 8-9 + 8-9 chaetae. Abdominal tergum IV with p0 chaeta; because of asymmetries m0 chaeta difficult to recognize. Abdominal tergum V with a0 and p0 chaetae, chaetae p1 and p2 as strong spines ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ). Abdominal tergum VI with 2 axial chaetae and 1+1 prespinal chaetae. Subcoxae1 of I–III legs with 4–5, 5, 5 chaetae respectively.

Thoracic sterna with 0+0, 1+1, 1+1 chaetae respectively. Ventral tube with 8+8 chaetae and 1+1 chaetae at base. Furca reduced to small area of fine granulation and three rows of manubrial chaetae behind its posterior edge. Claws without teeth. Empodial appendage without basal lamella, distinctly shorter than inner edge of claw (ratio 0.4–0.5). Tibiotarsi I–III with 11 chaetae in distal whorl ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 7 – 12 ). Anal spines 1.5–1.6 as long as inner edge of claw III. Male ventral organ composed of 3+3 thickened chaetae, located on posterior part of ventral tube. “

Remarks. The holotype of S. spinularius is destroyed (dried). In the Gisin’s collection only two paratypes and 5 specimens from another locality are available for examining. The species is very similar to S. edinensis (for differences see: “Remarks” of S. edinensis ).
