Remarks. The apple leaf miner has not been recorded as often as one would expect. Several papers deal with the pest aspects of this species in the region of Paris. Vacated mines potentially could be confused with the rarer Stigmella desperatella , but the green larvae separate the latter from the yellow S. malella larvae.
