Type species. Melichariella boninensis Matsumura, 1914 .

Diagnosis. See original key and description for Zhang & Webb (1996). Foremargin of head broadly rounded in dorsal and lateral view. Vertex yellow with a pair of spots posteriorly. Clypellus expanded apically. Hind femur macrosetae 2+1+1. Pygofer lobe broad and conical with several macrosetae. Aedeagus stout with pair of preapical posterior spines; with a single shaft and gonopore. Style short, basal part broad. Connective short, Y-shaped.
