Rodrigues (1877: 49). Type:— BRAZIL. Minas Gerais: no locality, December , no collector (lectoype designated by

Fowlie & Duveen (1992): unpublished illustration by Barbosa Rodrigues in Iconographie des orchidées du Brésil: t.

11”!). ( Figs. 20 View FIGURE 20 , 26E View FIGURE 26 ).

Heterotypic synonym: Epidendrum dutrae (Pabst) Hawkes (1956: 170) . Encyclia dutrae Pabst (1955: 110) . Type:— BRAZIL. Rio Grande do Sul: Torres, Morro do Forno, 6 December 1934, Dutra 1164 (holotype: ICN M/11/2/33/1, not found; RB 84074, designated here as the lectotype).

Epiphytic herbs, up to 32.0 cm tall. Pseudobulbs conical, 3.7 × 1.1 cm. Leaves 2, oblanceolate, 17.3−28.7 × 0.5−0.6 cm, apex acute. Inflorescence a 2–8-flowered, simple raceme; peduncle 15.7−28.7 cm long; rachis 3.5−18.6 cm long. Floral pedicel 2.3−2.7 × 0.2 cm, warty; sepals brownish green, dorsal lanceolate, 2.2 × 0.6 cm, laterals lanceolate, 2.2 × 0.6 cm, reflexed, margin undulate, apex acute; petals brownish green, spatulate, 2.0 × 0.6−0.7 cm, reflexed, margin undulate, apex acute to mucronate; lip with claw 0.15−0.10 × 0.40 cm, lateral lobes free relative to midlobe, 1.0−1.1 × 0.4−0.5 cm, yellowish, at a <45° angle to the midlobe (in the flattened lip), sometimes overlapping it, margin entire, apex obtuse, midlobe oval, c. 2.0 × 1.1−1.4 cm, pink with dark pink streaks, conduplicate, margin undulate, apex emarginate to mucronate, callus cymbiform, bifid; column clavate, 1.1−1.3 × 0.3−0.5 cm, clinandrium apex tridentate, lateral teeth triangular, apex acute, arms of column oval to quadrate, 0.12−0.15 × 0.12−0.20 cm, apex obtuse; stigma elliptic, without basal hooks; anther one, whitish, 0.25−0.30 × 0.28−0.30 cm.

Distribution and habitat:— Endemic to the southeast and south, in cerrado and Atlantic Forest ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 ).

Phenology:— Flowering September to December.

Etymology:— From Latin paucus, few, and flos, flower, a reference to the small number of flowers in each inflorescence.

Taxonomic notes:— Enyclia pauciflora has short (18−30 cm), few-flowered (up to 8 flowers) inflorescences. The illustration from the protologue of E. dutrae differs from the isotype at RB, which is a synonym of E. pauciflora . Because the holotype stated to be at ICN could not be found, we opted to lectotypify this name with an isotype at RB. Unaware of the previous lectotypification by Fowlie & Duveen (1992) for E. pauciflora, Meneguzzo et al. (2010) superfluously lectotypified the name with the same illustration.
