Epiphytic herbs, 18.5 cm tall. Pseudobulbs ovoid, 1.1 × 0.5 cm. Leaves 1−2, oblanceolate to linear, 17.2 × 0.6 cm, apex acute. Inflorescence a 3–6-flowered, simple raceme; peduncle 19.0 cm long; rachis c. 4.4 cm long. Floral pedicel 1.8−2.2 × 0.1−0.2 cm; sepals brownish yellow, dorsal lanceolate, 1.7 × 0.5 cm, laterals lanceolate, 1.5 × 0.5 cm, pendent, margin entire, apex acute; petals brownish yellow, spatulate, 1.6 × 0.5 cm, pendent, margin entire to weakly serrate, apex acute; lip claw 0.1 × 0.2−0.3 cm, lateral lobes free relative to midlobe, 0.7−0.8 × 0.4 cm, white, at about 45° to the midlobe (in the flattened lip), not overlapping it, margin entire, apex obtuse, midlobe rounded, 0.6−0.7 × 0.7−0.8 cm, white marked with pink, conduplicate, margin undulate, apex emarginate, callus cymbiform, acute; column dolabriform, 0.9 × 0.2−0.4 cm, clinandrium apex tridentate, lateral teeth triangular, apex acute, arms of the column elliptic to quadrate, c. 0.1 × 0.2 cm, apex obtuse; stigma triangular, with basal hooks; anther 1, yellow, 0.2 × 0.2 cm.

Distribution and habitat:— Endemic in the Atlantic Forest of Bahia ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 ).

Phenology:— Flowering August–February.

Etymology:— Referring to the type locality, municipality of Una, in southern Bahia.

Taxonomic notes:— Encyclia unaensis has flowers with a whitish lip and rounded midlobe that is densely marked in pink. This and the oblanceolate purplish leaves make this species easily distinguished from any other species in the genus.
