Epiphytic herbs, 50.0 cm tall. Pseudobulbs conical, 9.4 × 2.3 cm. Leaves 2, lanceolate, 41.4 × 1.7 cm, apex acute. Inflorescence a densely 6−15-flowered, compound raceme; peduncle c. 35.0 cm long; rachis 16.0 cm long. Floral pedicel c. 2.3 × 0.1 cm, warty; sepals green-olive, brown stained, dorsal lanceolate, 1.7 × 0.4 cm, laterals lanceolate, 1.7 × 0.4 cm, pendent, margin entire, apex acute; petals green-olive, brown stained, spatulate, 1.7 × 0.4 cm, pendent, margin entire, apex acute; lip claw 0.1 × 0.2 cm, lateral lobes free relative to midlobe, 0.8 × 0.4 cm, greenish, at about a 45° angle to the midlobe (in the flattened lip), not overlapping it, margin entire, apex obtuse, midlobe vertical elliptic to narrow triangular, 0.8 × 0.4 cm, yellowish, sinuous, margin undulate, apex mucronate to acute, callus cymbiform, bifid; column dolabriform, 0.6 × 0.3 cm, clinandrium apex tridentate, lateral teeth triangular, apex acute, arms of the column linear, 0.15 × 0.08 cm, apex obtuse; stigma elliptic, with basal hooks; anther 1, pinkish.

Distribution and habitat:— Endemic to the Amazon ( Fig. 22 View FIGURE 22 ).

Phenology:— Flowering January–April.

Etymology:— A reference to the original location of the type near the Yauaperi River, Amazonas State.

Taxonomic notes:— Encyclia yauaperyensis has flowers that are distinctive for the genus, especially the broad midlobe, which varies from vertical-elliptical to narrow and triangular, with a mucronate to acute apex and triangular lateral lobes.
