Taxonomy: Cryptoxyleborus major was described from specimens imported to Japan in timber from East Malaysia ( Sarawak) ( Browne 1986). It was recorded again from the same source by Ohno (1990 b). The holotype (BMNH) has been examined. It is a large species, distinguished by the transverse impression on the elytral disc, in which striae 1 are deeply impressed. A photograph of the species in dorsal view is included in Kikata et al. (1994).
Distribution: East Malaysia ( Sarawak).
Biology: The species has been recorded from Dipterocarpus sp. and Shorea sp. (Dipterocarpaceae) ( Browne 1986; Ohno 1990 b).
