Xyleborus eggersianus Schedl, 1960: 110 (unnecessary new name for X. eggersi ( Schedl 1936, not Beeson 1930)).

Cryptoxyleborus dryobalanopsis Schedl, 1942:184 . Synonymy: Bright and Skidmore, 1997:4, 175.

Taxonomy: This large species is related to C. major with a transverse saddle– like depression on the elytral disc, but striae 1 are not deeply impressed on the elytral disc. Other distinguishing characters are given in the key. Although described in Cryptoxyleborus in 1936, the genus itself was not described until the following year.

Distribution: East Malaysia (Sabah, Sarawak), Philippines, West Malaysia, Vietnam. The species is newly recorded here from Brunei Darussalam.

Biology: Recorded from Balanocarpus heimii King , Dipterocarpus sp. , Dryobalanops aromatica C. F. Gaert. , Shorea sp. (all Dipterocarpaceae ) ( Browne 1961, 1981, 1985; Ohno 1990 b). In B. heimii , it was recorded from a living tree, but one infested by termites ( Browne 1961).
