Black. Anterior and posterior margins of vertex ochraceous. Face black except ochraceous upper part. Pronotum black with extreme lateral and posterior margins ochraceous. Legs ochraceous. Forewings black, costal margin, inner and claval margins narrowly ochraceous or stramineous.

Head narrower than pronotum. Pronotum without median impressed transverse line.

Male genitalia. Pygofer lobe with dorsal margin convex, posterodorsal angle produced into rounded lobe, ventral process slightly exceeding pygofer. Subgenital plate and style as in E. extremus . Connective with stem twice as long as arms. Aedeagus with well developed ventral extension of atrium, caudoventral margin in basal region mucronate and with ventral angular projection, dorsolateral lobes well developed, processes short and rounded lobe-like, reaching at most half-length of shaft, gonopore apical.

Female genitalia. Posterior margin of seventh sternite with broad, medially slightly convexly produced.

Measurements. Male 5.7–5.8 mm long, 1.5 mm wide across eyes and 1.6 mm wide across posterolateral angles of pronotum. Female 6.7–6.8 mm long, 1.7 mm wide across eyes and 1.8 mm wide across posterolateral angles of pronotum.

Remarks. Originally described from an unspecified number of specimens (syntypes) with the following data: “Sikhim; Kurseong (Ind. Mus.)”. The topotypical variety also described by Distant has been seen (see Material examined). This species can readily be recognized by its black face and largely black pronotum. The processes of dorsolateral lobes reach about mid length of the shaft. This is the most common species in North India throughout the Sub-Himalayan region and also on the Simla Hills. E. convolutus and E. manaliensis also resemble this species in coloration and structure and are sympatric. They can only be differentiated by the male genitalia characters. The females of these species at present are indistinguishable. E. repexus may turn out to be a species complex as there is considerable variation in the shape of the aedeagus ( Figs 29 A–F View FIGURES29 , 30 A–G View FIGURES 30 ). A careful study of the populations throughout the Sub-Himalayan range along with their host plants is necessary for elucidating this species complex.
