Synodus jaculum Randall & Cressey 1979 — Javelinfish ( Fig. 19 )

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District at 8 m depth by Dean Tully on 10 July 2011, and at 10 m depth on 20 Sept. 2012.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: East Africa east to Line, Marquesas and Society islands, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found on sand or sandrubble areas of lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 2–100 m depth. Marine.
