Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Carteret Harbour, New Ireland as Chironectes tuberosus by Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes (1837: 428–429).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 3.—General distribution: East Africa east to Hawaiian and Tuamotu islands. Cryptic, in coral reefs, 1–73 m depth. Marine.
