Status at New Ireland. First recorded from off Cape St. George, New Ireland as Euleptorhamphus longirostris by Munro (1958: 136–137).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 3.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Panama, north to southern Japan and Hawaiian Islands, south to New Zealand and Kermadec Islands. Oceanic, pelagic, but entering large bays and found inshore near islands, 0–1 m depth. Marine.
