Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Drei Inseln Harbour, New Hanover as Allanetta forskali by Munro (1958: 156).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Hawaiian and Tuamotu islands, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia, New South Wales ( Australia) and Rapa, recently immigrated into eastern Mediterranean through Suez Canal. Pelagic, schooling along sandy shorelines and reef margins, 0–39 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
