Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed on 4 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District .

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Cocos-Keeling and Christmas islands (eastern Indian Ocean) east to Marshall and Phoenix islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Queensland ( Australia). Found in coral reefs, 6–70 m depth. Marine.
