Alepes vari (Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1833) —Herring scad ( Fig. 67 )

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed by D. Tully at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District , 3 m depth, 10 July 2017.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa east to Philippines and Solomon Islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Western Australia and Queensland ( Australia). Found in coastal waters over coral reefs, entering estuaries, 0–10 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
