Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005 by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey, and by Barry C. Russell on 14 and 21 June 2014 .

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary or in small groups, in sheltered coastal reefs or lagoons, 2–40 m depth. Marine.
