Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed on 5 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District; specimens photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 11 June 2009 , others at St. KVG 17 on the Bismarck Sea side of northern Kavieng District by Serge Andréfouët on 18 Aug. 2014 , and at St. KVG28 (southeast of New Hanover) by Serge Andréfouët on 24 Aug. 2014 .

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Hawaiian and Marquesas islands and Pitcairn Group, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in large aggregations above outer slopes of seaward coral reefs, 3–60 m depth. Marine.
