Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed at St. KVG18 (south side of Bauddisson Island, Kavieng District) by Serge Andréfouët on 18 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken at Nubilus Island, off eastern New Hanover, at 3–32 m depth, St. KR88, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa, Mozambique Channel, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Mariana Islands, Samoa and Tonga, north to southern Japan and Ryukyu Islands, south to Western Australia, Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Found sheltered coral reefs and lagoons, 2–15 m depth. Marine.
