Status at New Ireland. New record, based on photograph taken on 1 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District; a video of a specimen taken at Alexander Passage, off southeastern New Hanover , at 5–14 m depth, St. KR 96, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Christmas Island (eastern Indian Ocean) east to Yap ( Caroline Islands) and Fiji, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in coastal, lagoon and seaward reefs, 0–32 m depth. Marine.
